Further evidence – this time from the horse’s mouth – that the UK has indeed been actively supporting the illegal US-Israeli war in Iran.
And doing so ‘from Day One’, according to the UK’s ambassador to Washington.
Christian Turner – in the role since December 2025, following Peter Mandelson’s sacking — conceded that there had been early disagreements. ‘But once the conflict started, the UK has taken action,’ he told Newsmax2 host Ike Wingate on 16 April.
Support had since been taking three key forms, he said. ‘First of all, [the UK] did grant basing and overflight permissions out of RAF Fairford and Diego Garcia,’ he said, adding that US aircraft have been ‘flying sorties night after night off UK bases’.
This arrangement had ‘allowed almost a doubling of the speed of the operation,’ because the UK is closer to Iran than is the US.
The second form of ‘support’ has been ‘our deep intelligence co-operation,’ Turner said. ‘It’s like an iceberg that sits beneath the waterline. We don’t talk about it, but it’s very foundational — British and American servicemen and women working together.’
Next he highlighted the third form of military support: on-site UK activity. ‘The UK has been flying our assets in the Middle East – F-35s, Typhoons – out of both [RAF Akrotiri] in Cyprus and Qatar.
‘We have had more sorties than we have for 15 years – about 2,000 flying hours, something like 12 weeks of continuous flying, shooting down drones and missiles every night.’
He added: ‘From Day One of this conflict… I think we have really been showing what you would expect, which is the US and UK working together.’
